Carmen McRae Vinyl Record Albums. Carmen Mercedes McRae (April 8, – November 10, ) was an American jazz singer, composer, pianist, and actress. Considered one of the most influential jazz vocalists of the 20th century, it was her behind-the-beat phrasing and her ironic interpretations of song lyrics that made her memorable.

"There Will Come A Time", when the music and the people rhyme was the hopeful message from this great song in the seventies when Carmen McRae recorded these amazing tracks but sadly this was not to happen instead music started a dizzying downward spiral continuing to date with singers like Carmen McRae taken for granted releasing one tremendous release after another like these awesome Lp's /5(8).

Bold, boozy work from Carmen McRae – a wonderfully mature album from that great time when her style was equal parts jazz and soul – put together here by arranger/ producer Arif Mardin, a perfect choice for the record! There's a care to the overall presentation not heard in some of McRae 's albums from a few years before – not just jazz vocals with a backing group, but a really rich.

I agree this is NOT an essential Carmen McRae CD. But repeated listenings grow on the listener. There are studio and live takes on this collection so it presents Carmen in different settings. The live tracks are what make this CD worth getting. Carmen lets loose on several live tracks, even throwing in a 'cuss word on "Ain't Nobody's Business"/5(5).

Carmen McRae recorded amazing masterful recordings throughout the sixties being a number of stunning classics on Mainstream Records first half of the sixties, then a number of miraculous albums on Atlantic Records throughout the remainder of the great musical sixties, all to glowing critical acclaim yet with minimal radio exposure sadly these masterpiece collections of remarkable performances /5(9).
